The Utwa ( Russian Утва , also Schingirlau , Tschingirlau ) is a left tributary of the Urals in the Kazakh region of Western Kazakhstan .

The Utwa rises on the border with Russia . It flows predominantly in a north-westerly direction west past Aqsai through the western Kazakhstan area and after 290 km reaches the Urals on the left. The catchment area of the Utwa covers 6940 km². The Utwa is mainly fed by the snowmelt . In spring the river is flooded . In the summer months the Utwa falls dry in places. The mean discharge at the Grigoryevka gauge is 3.8 m³ / s. The maximum discharge is 227 m³ / s, the minimum 0.19 m³ / s. The river is ice-covered between November and April. The water of the Utwa is used for irrigation and water supply .
