Uwe Dethloff (born September 2, 1940 in Güstrow ) is a German Romanist .

life and work

Dethloff fled to the West with his parents in 1946 and grew up in Düsseldorf . From 1961 to 1967 he studied Romance studies and classical philology in Saarbrücken and Dijon . In 1974 he received his doctorate in Saarbrücken (with Claude Digeon ) with the dissertation The novel by Gustave Flaubert. The development of the representation of people from November to L'éducation sentimentale (1869) (Fink, Munich 1976). He completed his habilitation there in 1986 with the work The literary dismantling of bourgeois patriarchalism. On the development of the image of femininity in the French novel of the 19th century (Stauffenburg, Tübingen 1988). After visiting professorships in the USA, France and Luxembourg, he was appointed professor for Lettres Modernes at the University of Strasbourg in 1991, but gave up this chair at the end of 1993 and returned as an adjunct professor to the Saarland University, where he retired in 2005.

As a recognized literary scholar and author of a great French grammar with many years of involvement in innovative university didactics, Dethloff has a bundling of skills that is rare at the German university, which in 2006 prompted the Conference of Education Ministers to instruct him (together with Thomas Klinkert) with the creation of a specialist profile of the Romance languages to instruct teacher training (adopted 2008).
