Uwe Gerd Liebert

Uwe Gerd Liebert (born October 10, 1954 in Düsseldorf ) is a German doctor , virologist and university professor. He is director of the Institute for Virology at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Uwe Gerd Liebert studied human medicine, German literature and philosophy at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, at the Medical School of the University of Manchester and at Cornell University , School of Medicine, in New York. From 1974 to 1980 he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation , from 1983 to 1984 the German Research Foundation gave him a grant. From 1985 to 1986 Liebert did his community service in a hospital in Würzburg.

After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 1980, he worked at the Neuropathological Institute and the University Clinic of Neurology and at Queen's University in Belfast (Northern Ireland) until 1984. In 1982 he received his doctorate with the paper On the effects of dihydro-ergotamine on the arterial and venous systems of the great circulation, studies on anesthetized dogs in complete cardiopulmonary bypass . From 1986 to 1995 he worked at the Institute for Virology and Immunobiology at the University of Würzburg . In 1991 he completed his habilitation. Uwe Gerd Liebert has been the director of the Institute for Virology at the University of Leipzig since 1995. In spring 2020, he spoke as an expert on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uwe Gerd Liebert was a member of the church council of the Johanniskirche in Würzburg from 1986 to 1995. From 1997 to 2014 he was a member of the church council of the Panitzsch church. Liebert is a member of the 27th Evangelical Lutheran Regional Synod of Saxony .

Liebert lives near Leipzig.
