Uwe Jean Heuser
Uwe Jean Heuser [ ˈuːvə ʒɑ̃ 'hɔi̯zɐ ] (* 1963 ) is a German journalist .
Life
Heuser studied in Bonn, Berkeley, Cologne and Harvard. He received his doctorate in economics from the University of Cologne . He was active in both business and journalism . In 1992 he joined the editorial team of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , where he has headed the economic department since 2000. He is also a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen and honorary professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .
In his work, published in 2000, The Uneasiness in Capitalism. Heuser emphasized the new economy and its consequences that in the dynamic of the globalized economy, people have to deal with increasingly complex market information and have to devote more attention and lifetime to economic calculations. Similar to the American sociologist Richard Sennett , Heuser stated that humans were not made for such behavior. The rapid succession of decision-making situations risks overwhelming people . The patterns of perceptions, feelings and decisions of people do not correspond to the rational, consistently profit-oriented behavior that the market demands, and there is an increasing conflict of goals between private economic advantage and the need for social cohesion and fair conditions. On this basis, old community institutions could no longer function effectively. Society faces the challenge of looking for solutions that strengthen public spirit and freedom; In this context, Heuser sees social entrepreneurship as a central element of a functioning society.
