Uwe Muegge

Uwe Muegge (* 1960 in Stuttgart ) is a German translation scholar and terminologist. He teaches at the Monterey Institute of International Studies and is currently on the board of the language service provider CSOFT .

Life

Muegge received his academic degree in English , American and political science from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . Muegge also holds a Masters of Arts degree in telecommunications and film from the University of Oregonand a Master of Arts in Translation Studies (German) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. He is considered a pioneer in automatic language processing and cloud-based, computer-aided translation, as well as an expert in automation processes in the areas of terminology management, translation and localization. In addition, his website is an example of an internationalization approach. The website uses machine translation to generate versions of the content in other languages.

During his professional career, Muegge has worked with global companies such as B. Daimler, SAP or Medtronic worked together. In addition to his work on the board of CSOFT, Muegge teaches computer-aided translation and terminology management at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Uwe Muegge is married to Christine Muegge, with whom he has three daughters.

Contribution to translation studies

Muegge developed a number of processes and tools that increase the productivity and quality of various steps in the translation process. This includes the automatic extraction of terminology and dictionary creation. One of his solutions was rated better by the Swiss Federal Chancellery than the solution from the market leader in this area. In addition, he developed various controlled languages. In this context, Controlled Language Optimized for Uniform Translation should be mentioned, a set of rules that enable the creation of a text that can be machine-translated. Muegge has also developed a method for integrating machine translation tools into translation memory systems. He has also written a model solution for specifying translation jobs.
