Uwe Seiler (born August 6, 1956 in Ibbenbüren , Germany ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and current coach. He spent his entire professional career at VfL Osnabrück .
Career
Seiler already played for VfL Osnabrück in his youth. In 1975 he moved to the professional squad. He played his first second division game on the 29th matchday of the 1975/76 season in the away game against Preußen Münster , when he was substituted on for Werner Kamper when the score was 2-0. Seiler remained without conceding a goal for the rest of the game and since then has mostly played in the starting line-up until matchday 12 of the following season , when he was ousted by Wolfgang Dramsch and only rarely played because of his good results. Even when Dramsch left the club in 1978, Seiler was again unable to prevail against the newly signed Rolf Meyer , but remained loyal to VfL Osnabrück. Meyer left Osnabrück in 1983 for Borussia Dortmund because he could not agree on a contract extension with VfL. From then on, Seiler was VfL's regular goalkeeper, both in the 2nd Bundesliga and in 1984/85 when Osnabrück played in the third-class Oberliga Nord. Seiler conceded just 31 goals this season and played in 16 of 34 games to zero, so that the club was promoted straight back to the 2nd Bundesliga. He remained a regular goalkeeper until the end of the first half of the 1987/88 season , in the second half of the season Christof Rekers was used instead of him and Seiler did not complete a single game. That changed again in the 1988/89 season and Seiler didn't miss a single minute in the league. The team was on a relegation zone for a long time, but brought three wins and one draw from the last four games and managed to stay relegated. The last game of the season, a 1-1 draw away at relegated Mainz, was also Seiler's last appearance as a professional. His contract ran until 1990, but he no longer played. That year he also ended his career as a player.
Seiler comes to a total of 203 second division games , 34 league games and 9 inserts in the DFB Cup , all for the VfL Osnabrück .
