Uwe Will

Uwe Will (born December 20, 1941 ) is a German painter and sculptor from Hagen .

Will first completed an apprenticeship as a painter. His penchant for artistic work brought him in contact with Hagen artists such as Paul Gernhardt , Oskar Sommer , Hermann Betterman , but above all with Carl Baumann . In 1982 he opened his studio and in 1984 became a member of the Hagenring Artists' Association . Since then, Will has also been their exhibition director.

On July 10, 2010, WDR television reported on an art campaign that Uwe Will had carried out with students from the Bodelschwingh School in Hagen. Within two months, a 27 × 3.5 meter painting was created that Will had designed and painted with the students.

There are works of art by Uwe Will in many parts of the city. On August 27, 2008, his sculpture by the composer Karl Halle was unveiled on Johanniskirchplatz in Hagen. The larger than life statues of Karl Ernst Osthaus and Henry van de Velde have been standing on the site of an industrial wasteland in front of the backdrop of a former coking plant since July 2012 .

Since 2004 Will has been the official portrait painter of the mayor of Hagen. He is considered a representative of imaginary realism .
