Aloe namibensis is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet namibensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the Namib desert.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe namibensis grows individually and without trunk. The lanceolate leaves form dense rosettes . The glauke leaf blade is up to 50 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide. The leaf surface is slightly rough. The light-colored teeth on the leaf margin are up to 2 millimeters long and 1 millimeter apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence consists of two to four branches and reaches a length of up to 95 centimeters. The dense, cylindrical, pointed grapes are up to 45 centimeters long and 6 centimeters wide. The ovoid-lanceolate bracts are up to 35 millimeters long and 14 millimeters wide. The coral pink flowers are tipped green. They stand on 3 to 5 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 23 to 30 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 10 millimeters. Your tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the pen stand out 7 to 12 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe namibensis is widespread in Namibia in the dry valley of the Khan-Rivier of Usakos west to 100 kilometers off the Atlantic coast at altitudes of 680 to 1200 meters.

The first description by Johan Wilhelm Heinrich Giess was published in 1970.

Aloe namibensis is in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
