The Uws Nuur Basin ( Russian: Убсунурская котлови́на ) is located in northwest Mongolia and in the south of the Russian Republic of Tuva .

It forms the northern part of the Great Lakes basin . The basin landscape in Mongolia extends over the administrative districts of Chöwsgöl-Aimag , Dsawchan-Aimag and Uws-Aimag . In the center of the Uws Nuur basin is the outflowless lake Uws Nuur .

The Uws-Nuur Basin is a tectonic depression framed by the Tannu-ola Mountains in the north and the Chan-Chuchin-Ula Mountains in the south. The height of the basin varies between 753  m and 1500  m . A gravel plain with steppe landscape and a spreading desert characterize the Uws-Nuur basin.
