Václav Dobruský

Václav Dobruský ( Bulgarian Вацлав Добруски ; born August 11, 1858 in Heřmanův Městec , † December 26, 1916 in Prague ) was a Czech high school teacher, archaeologist and numismatist. He is considered to be one of the founders of archeology in Bulgaria .

Dobruský studied Classical Philology at the Charles University in Prague . From 1880 to 1886 he worked as a teacher in Plovdiv . During this time his interest in the archeology of Bulgaria began. From 1886 to 1893 he taught Latin at the higher boys' school in Sofia. From 1891 he also taught at the University of Sofia . From 1893 to 1910 he was the first director of the National Museum in Sofia . He carried out excavations in Ognyanovo (1904), Oescus (1904–1905), Glava Panega (1905), and Nicopolis ad Istrum (1906–1909).

In 1910 he returned to Prague, where he taught ancient numismatics at the university from 1912 to 1914 . From 1914 until his death he headed the library of the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences .
