Väinö Penttala

Väinö Verner Penttala (born January 16, 1897 in Isokyrö as Väinö Verner Vaissalo ; † February 28, 1976 ibid) was a Finnish wrestler and silver medalist at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp .

Penttala was a member of the Kyrön Voima association in his birthplace Isokyrö in the Österbotten region . In 1920 he took part in the freestyle tournament in the class up to 75 kilograms (middleweight) for Finland at the Olympic Games in Antwerp. In the end, Penttala only had to admit defeat to his compatriot - at that time two athletes per nation were allowed to compete in the wrestling - Eino Augusti Leino , who lived in the United States.

In 1923, championships in freestyle wrestling were held in Finland for the first time. Pentalla won the title four times in this style until 1927.
