Vilho Pekkala

Vilho Ferdinand Pekkala (born April 3, 1898 in Kotka , † October 20, 1974 in Kotka) was a Finnish wrestler and bronze medalist at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris .

At the 1924 Games, Pekkala competed in freestyle wrestling in the 79 kg class . In the end, he was third behind Fritz Hagmann from Switzerland and Pierre Ollvier from Belgium .

In Finland, Vilho Pekkala was only once Finnish champion, namely in 1928 in freestyle. In the Greco-Roman style he had tough competitors with the ten-time Finnish master Oskar Friman and the experienced Onni Pellinen , in freestyle he often had to place himself behind his competitor Kyösti Luukko . Until 1928 Pekkala started for Helsingin Kisa-Veikot (HKV), from 1929 for Hallan Visa in Kotka , later he wrestled for Helsingin Poliisi-Voimailijat (HPV).
