history

Shortly before the First World War, numerous villages in the near and far vicinity of Leipzig erected memorial stones on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , which often only bear the year of the decisive battle of the Wars of Liberation . In Quellendorf a memorial plaque was placed on an upright boulder.

inscription

Memorial stones for the Battle of Nations are part of the border area of war memorials , as they do not specifically remind of those who died at the place, but mostly only bear the dates. In Quellendorf, the inscription in Gothic script on the oval commemorative plaque reads: Der / Deutschen Freiheit / 18. Oktbr. / 1813-1913 . This text is crowned by an iron cross . Its design makes it a bit more like a monument than other memorial stones - such as the one in Weißandt-Gölzau .
