history

Many villages in the near and far vicinity of Leipzig erected memorial stones on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , which often only bear the year of the decisive battle of the Wars of Liberation . In Piethen such a stone was placed on a pile of stones. It is located in the cemetery in the center of the village north of the church and west of the war memorial for the First World War .

inscription

Memorial stones for the Battle of Nations are part of the border area of war memorials , as they do not specifically remind of those who died at the place, but mostly only bear the dates. In Piethen, like in Weißandt-Gölzau, it was decided not only to name the year, but also to establish a concrete reference to the Battle of Nations by adding the following inscription: 1813 / October 18. / 1913 . The otherwise typical Iron Cross seems to have been dispensed with here. Due to the simple design, the monument ability is sometimes questioned.
