The exhibition area in the Holešovice district was built in 1891 on the occasion of the Prague Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 ( Jubilejní zemská výstava ), on the occasion of which the Petřín lookout tower , the Petřín funicular railway , the Letná funicular railway and, finally, the Belvedere Electric Railway , the first electrified railway line in the Bohemian lands emerged.

The center of the display area is in Nouveau built Industrial Palace ( Průmyslový palác ) with neo-baroque elements. This was built according to plans by the architects Bedřich Münzberger and František Prášil and was opened on March 15, 1891. At that time, the building was the most expensive building on the site with construction costs of 500,000 gold coins. The construction was carried out by První českomoravská strojírna Kolben-Daněk in cooperation with the construction company of the architect František Víška and took only five months to complete despite poor weather conditions. The iron structure of the building had a weight of 800 tons, the iron girders towered up to a height of 38 meters. The building was one of the iron girder structures in the Bohemian region. Architecturally, the building completes the Výstavní třída (Exhibition Street ), on which the Veletržní palác is also located. One of the attractions of the site was the electrically lit Křižíkova fontána , which was renovated in the 1990s. During the exhibition between May 15 and October 18, 1891, 2.5 million visitors visited the site.

In the time of Communism the area was in honor of Julius Fučík in na "Park kultury a oddechu Julia Fučíka" renamed and the Průmyslový palác was called "Sjezdový palác" .

On the evening of October 16, 2008, a fire broke out in the left wing of the Průmyslový palác . The part of the building was completely destroyed by the flames. The use of the fire brigade prevented it from spreading to the central building and the rest of the complex. The cause of the fire was an electrical device.

The site was leased to Incheba Praha by the City of Prague on a long-term basis . Výstaviště Praha as has been managing the area since 2015 , which is wholly owned by the City of Prague.
