The Norwegian railcars V.B. Cm 109 was built in 1935 as a one-off by Strømmens Værksted for Valdresbane . The vehicle was a facility railcar with only one driver's cab at one end of the vehicle. It was the first so-called goldfish railcar ( Norwegian gullfisk ), which was followed two years later by numerous tram cars of the same design.

history

The transition from mixed trains to pure passenger trains by Norges Statsbaner on the Oslo – Gjøvik ( Gjøvikbanen ) railway prompted the Valdresbane (VB) to seek a quick connection to the capital Oslo . However, the number of passengers was too small to justify a steam-driven connecting train. For example, a combustion railcar was ordered from Strømmens Værksted , which was in strong competition with Skabo jernbanevognfabrik in Hamar .

The front of the car received a bogie with running axles for safe track guidance, behind a single drive axle was chosen to reduce the service weight. The engine was of the same type as was common in many NSB railcars. The car body was made of wood and covered with aluminum. The drive axle was equipped with a differential. All wheels without axles were stored individually in the bogie.

The motor car was very popular, but it did not have a long service life on the route between Eina and Fagernes .

Type drawing

With the expiry of the concession for the private Valdresbane on July 1, 1937, the entire Valdresbane and the railcar were taken over by Norges Statsbaner.

There it was given the new series designation Cm 17a and the new vehicle number 18247 in accordance with the NSB numbering plan that has been in effect since 1934 .

Its use took place in the Oslo district , from where it was delivered to the Drammen district on July 21, 1939 . With the NSB numbering plan of 1942, the railcar got the series designation Cmb 17a with the same vehicle number . On January 12, 1946, the car came to the Stavanger district , from where it was passed on to the Kristiansand district on May 7, 1947 . It stayed there until it was parked on August 5, 1955. His last trip was on the route between Grimstad and Rise . After the decommissioning on April 7, 1956, the railcar was scrapped .

Special

The railcar was given the name Kristin Lavransdatter , after the work of the same name by Sigrid Undset .
