The Vistas Verlag ( own spelling VISTAS ) is a German publisher with a focus on media-scientific specialist literature.
history
The publishing house was founded in 1984 by the publisher Folker U. Strobel at the same time as the introduction of the dual broadcasting system in Germany. The publishing house was initially located in Berlin . Since then, the publisher has had the addition "Der Medienverlag". In 2014 the publishing house was sold to Thomas Köhler and Judith Zimmermann. In the same year VISTAS relocated to Leipzig .
program
With a few exceptions, the publishing program was geared towards scientific media literature (publisher's motto: “exquisite competence”) from the start. Broadcasters such as Deutsche Welle or DW Akademie publish their series there. VISTAS also publishes series of publications from the following universities and institutes: Humboldt University Berlin , Technical University Dortmund , University of Film and Television 'Konrad Wolf' , Erich Brost Institute for Journalism, as well as series of publications from numerous state media authorities from Saxony-Anhalt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia , Berlin-Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg. Also the title of the commission for youth media protection of the state media authorities . One of the most successful individual titles from the publisher's time in Berlin was the standard work Ratgeber Freie Journalisten , which appeared between 1987 and 2003. The editors were Kurt Weichler (1987), Berthold L. Flöper (1992) and Tom Buschardt (1998 and 2003).
Relocation to Leipzig
The annual digitization report has been published in Leipzig since 2014. Book titles such as the acceptance and evaluation of local and regional television in East Germany , broadcasting as a private and public good or topics to legitimize public broadcasting are representative of the current orientation of the publisher's titles, which appeal more to a specialist media audience. The publishing program covers a very broad, scientifically shaped spectrum, from computer games to "youth media protection in a sexualized everyday life" and classic media topics.
The publisher is a member of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels and is represented at the Leipzig Book Fair .
