The container ship type VW 1100.1 of the Volkswerft Stralsund was built in a series of nine units.

details

The VW 1100.1 series from Volkswerft was built for various German shipping companies in 1995/96. The design is a further development of the basic type VW 1100 and goes back to the BV 1000 ship type designed and built by Bremer Vulkan in the 1980s .

The ships are designed as multi-purpose dry cargo ships with a deckhouse far aft. They are mainly used in container transport. The container capacity has been increased slightly compared to the previous type and amounts to 1122 TEU, with homogeneously loaded 14-ton containers it is less. The ships have three holds that are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships were developed for use in areas with poorly developed port infrastructure and are therefore each equipped with two NMF cranes, each with a capacity of 45 tons, arranged amidships .

A common characteristic of the types BV 1000, VW 1100 and VW 1100.1 is the tapering taper of the two upper decks of the deckhouse . A further development of the type 1100.1 is the breakwater on the forecastle, which was implemented as a complete roofing of the forecastle in the two units built for the Buss shipping company. The ships are equipped with freefall lifeboats arranged at the stern .

The ships are powered by a two-stroke diesel engine from the manufacturer Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock with an output of around 10,900 kW. The engine does not act directly on a fixed propeller as in the VW 1100, but on a controllable pitch propeller system and a shaft generator from AEM Dessau . The motor type, which is more powerful than its predecessor, enables a service speed of 19 knots and a top speed of 19.5 knots. There are also three auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator available. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
