Lagh de Cama in Val Cama

The Val Cama is an eastern side valley of the Misox 'in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It runs in an east-west direction and belongs to the municipalities of Verdabbio and Cama GR . In the east it borders on Italy .

The valley can only be reached on foot. The path leads in the lower part through one of the highest chestnut forests of the Misox, followed by beech and spruce forests. After a two-and-a-half to three-hour walk, an imposing valley basin with steep slopes opens up at 1280 meters. In the valley are the two mountain lakes Lagh de Cama ( 1265  m ) and Lagh de Sambrog ( 2076  m )

geology

The area is the crystalline of the Pennine ceiling marked: orthogneisses , paragneiss , mica schist and phyllites alternate. Belts made of calcareous and dolomite- containing rock are switched on. Moraine and alluvial gravel characterize individual areas, especially the alluvial plain behind the Lagh de Cama, which has been dammed by landslide material. The water here only flows off above ground through the Ria de Val Cama when there is large outflow .

Alp de Lagh

All of the ten formerly cultivated Alps were given up in the course of the economic upswing and the associated structural change until the 1990s. Thanks to the support of Pro Natura and ProSpecieRara , since 2004 the Alp de Lagh on the Cama Bergsee has been grazing again with old and rare breeds of livestock such as the Rhaetian gray cattle, the Engadine sheep, old goat breeds, woolly pigs and the endangered gray mountain goat.

Val Cama - Val Leggia forest reserve

On October 19, 2007, Pro Natura, the canton of Graubünden and the Misox communities of Cama, Leggia and Verdabbio signed a protection contract for the Val Cama - Val Leggia forest reserve . With an area of around 15 square kilometers, it is the largest forest reserve in Switzerland outside of the Swiss National Park . The reserve extends to altitudes between 450  m and approx. 2200  m . The three municipalities will be financially compensated for the non-use of the forest for the next 50 years.

tourism

A well-developed hiking trail leads into the valley . There are also hiking trails in the neighboring valleys of Val Leggia and Val d'Arbola . In the otherwise uninhabited valley, you can find food and overnight stays on the Alp de Lagh and in the mountain huts Capanna Miralago and Capanna Righetti-Fibbioli in summer.
