The Valdivia Point is a headland at the Danco Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . In Hughes Bay it marks the northwest side of the entrance to Salvesen Cove .
Participants of the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld mapped it and erroneously named it Valdivia Island . Aerial photographs of the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition from 1956 and 1957 cleared up this error, so that the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee made an adaptation of the name in 1960. It is named after the Valdivia , research ship on the Valdivia expedition (1898–1899) under the direction of Carl Chun .
