Valencia (Santa Clarita)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valencia is a district of Santa Clarita in the US state of California and is located between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Santa Susana Mountains about 55 kilometers north of downtown Los Angeles . Valencia is part of Los Angeles County and is connected to the Los Angeles motorway network via Interstate 5 . In the 1960s, Valencia was designed on the drawing board by the Austrian city planner Victor Gruen on behalf of the Newhall Land and Farming Company . Today around 50,000 people live in the constantly growing place, which also offers around 50,000 jobs.

The district consists of a mixture of apartment buildings, office buildings, industrial plants, shopping centers and, above all, single-family houses. Valencia is divided into different villages , almost every village has its own schools, local shops and a so-called clubhouse with a swimming pool, playgrounds and barbecue facilities. The individual residential areas are connected within and with one another by so-called paseos (paved footpaths). This pedestrian network (40 kilometers) is not based on the road network, but leads through landscape areas, roads are crossed by bridges. Around 30 percent of the city is open space. Property owners in Valencia pay a special levy to finance maintenance.

The majority of the population belongs to the white middle class, who appreciate the place for the prestigious public schools and the low crime rate.

Valencia has two colleges, the College of the Canyons and the California Institute of the Arts , and the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park .
