Valentin Schaefer (politician)
Valentin Schaefer (born March 4, 1887 in Saarbrücken , † January 29, 1952 in Bingen am Rhein ) was a German police officer and politician ( center , CDU ).
Life
Schaefer was an inspector for the police in Bingen. Until 1942 he was a member of the Police Comradeship Association. In 1942 he was arrested by the Darmstadt Gestapo and transferred to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1943 . He was held in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until March 1944.
Schaefer was a member of the center before 1933. In 1919 he became a member of the Bingen city council. In the time of National Socialism he could not continue his political work. He was a member of the NSV in 1934 and a member of the DAF from 1937 to 1942 . After the war he co-founded the CDU and was mayor of Bingen from 1945 to 1947 and 1948 to 1952. In 1946/47 he was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of Rhineland-Palatinate. He resigned on March 26, 1947. The successor was Otto Schönhagen .
