Valerijus Grešnovas

Valerijus Grešnovas (born February 21, 1914 in Samara , † July 1, 1987 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian basketball coach, handball coach, rugby coach, university teacher and sports official.

Career

Valerijus Grešnovas studied at the Lithuanian Institute for Physical Education in Kaunas. From 1945 to 1980 he taught and headed a chair there, from 1972 onwards he was a lecturer. He was one of the initiators for rugby , hockey and badminton in Lithuania.

In 1941 he coached the Lithuanian women's basketball team . In 1947 his team became USSR junior champions in basketball. From 1948 to 1950 he coached the Lithuanian men's basketball team , from 1955 to 1956 the Lithuanian men's hockey team , from 1963 to 1964 the Lithuanian men's handball team , from 1967 to 1968 the Lithuanian men's rugby team . From 1955 to 1965 he was in charge of teams at the Sports University of Lithuania . In 1963 he became a coach of the USSR men's handball championship.
