Valeriu Caceanov
Valeriu Caceanov ( Russian Валерий Качанов , Valeri Katschanow, English transcription Valeriy Kachanov; born July 12, 1954 in Leningrad ) is a former Moldovan decathlete who competed for the Soviet Union .
In 1977 he won silver at the Universiade , and in 1978 he won the Décastar .
At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow he was in second place after the seventh discipline, but then gave up when he failed in the pole vault at the entrance height.
In 1982 he was seventh at the European Athletics Championships in Athens .
On June 21, 1980 he set the current Moldovan record in Moscow with 8288 points (8306 points in the old rating).
