Valeska von Gallwitz

Valeska von Gallwitz (born January 22, 1833 in Glogau , † April 9, 1888 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

She was born as Agnes Valeska Eugenie von Tempsky and came from a noble family who, originally based in Pomerellen, had been in Prussia since 1415 and settled in Silesia around 1640 . Her father Karl Gustav von Tempsky and her brothers, like most of their ancestors, were officers in the Prussian army . The adventurer, painter and journalist Gustav Ferdinand von Tempsky was her cousin.

Valeska von Tempsky grew up in Glogau and married in 1855 in Jauer August von Gallwitz called Dreyling († 1914 in Breslau), landlord on Dziersno near Gleiwitz . She lived in Breslau , Hanover and Berlin and began to write in 1868.

She published her first novel Editha and other stories from 1876 in the magazines of the Münchmeyer Verlag in Dresden , which Karl May was responsible for as editor, under the pseudonym Eugen Valeski . Another pseudonym she used was C. Michael .

The Goethe and Schiller archive of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar has an exchange of letters between Valeska von Gallwitz and the writer and editor Joseph Kürschner from the years 1877–1885.
