Valpolicella (area)
Valpolicella ( Venetian Valpolexela ) is the name of an Italian wine-growing region ( Veneto ) in the Lessinian hills north of Verona and east of Lake Garda . Valpolicella - DOC - wines are grown in three precisely defined areas, all of which lie between the Adige and the Monti Lessini . These are the areas (from west to east):
- Valpolicella Classica includes the valleys of Fumane , Marano and Negrar
- Valpolicella Valpantena runs parallel to the Valpolicella Classica area for 12 km and extends to the suburbs of Verona
- Valpolicella includes the Squaranto , Mezzane , Illasi , Tramigna and Alpone valleys as well as the districts of Verona
The wines grown here are mostly light and should be drunk young. But they can also be developed as a riserva , then they achieve a considerable abundance of taste. Furthermore, high-quality Amarone della Valpolicella , Valpolicella Ripasso and the sweet Recioto della Valpolicella are produced.
