Monti Lessini
Monti Lessini DOC are Italian white , red and sparkling wines ( Spumante ) that are produced in the hilly landscape of the Monti Lessini north of the Verona - Vicenza line or in the Lessinia area . These wines have had the status of a “controlled designation of origin ” ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since June 25, 1987 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
Cultivation
The production of Monti Lessini DOC is only authorized
- in the province of Verona : within the territory of the municipalities of Vestenanova and San Giovanni Ilarione and in parts of the municipalities of Montecchia di Crosara , Roncà , Cazzano di Tramigna , Tregnago , Badia Calavena ;
- in the province of Vicenza : within the territory of the municipalities of Arzignano , Castelgomberto , Chiampo , Brogliano , Gambugliano , Trissino and in parts of the municipalities of Cornedo Vicentino , Costabissara , Gambellara , Isola Vicentina , Malo , Marano Vicentino , Monte di Malo , Montebello Vicentino , Montecchio Maggiore , Montorso Vicentino , Nogarole Vicentino , San Vito di Leguzzano , Schio , Zermeghedo .
In 2014, 25,804 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 280 hectares in the entire Lessini area .
Manufacturing
The following types of wine are produced:
- Lessini Bianco : must be at least 50% of the grape variety Chardonnay exist. A maximum of 50% Durella , Garganega , Pinot bianco , Pinot nero , Pinot Grigio and / or Sauvignon may be added (individually or together).
- Monti Lessini Durello (also called Passito ): must consist of at least 85% Durella grapes . A maximum of 15% Garganega , Pinot bianco , Chardonnay and / or Pinot nero may be added.
- Monti Lessini Pinot nero : must consist of at least 85% Pinot nero grapes . A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are permitted in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza may be added.
