List of grape varieties |
Durella is a white grape variety from Italy . It produces very acidic wines (high malic acid content) with a strong character and a bitter fruit taste. This makes the white wines of the Durella grape a good base for making sparkling wine . The name Durella probably comes from the hard shell of the berries, since duro means hard in Italian .
Durella is mainly grown in the Veneto region. In the past, the base wines were primarily exported to Germany for the production of sparkling wine . Since the lessini Durello wine-growing region was named DOC in 1987 , more and more locally marketed wines based on Durella have been found. It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
Durella is also synonymous with the white grape variety Nosiola . However, both varieties are not related to each other.
