The Van Cleve Glacier is an 18 km long valley glacier in south-central Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest 85 km east-northeast of Cordova .
geography
The 1,600 m high nutrient area of the Van Cleve Glacier is located in the Chugach Mountains 15.5 km northwest of Mount Tom White . In the east it borders on the nutrient area of the Wernicke Glacier . The Van Cleve Glacier flows west. The glacier, 1.3 km wide in the lower area, ends at around 450 m . 6.5 km down the valley is Van Cleve Lake on the northern edge of the Miles Glacier . The Van Cleve Glacier is in retreat.
Naming
The glacier was named in 1910 by Lawrence Martin of the US Geological Survey (USGS) after JR Van Cleve, General Manager of the Copper River and Northwestern Railway .
