Vanessa Lorraine Allen Sutherland (* in Washington, DC , United States ) is a US lawyer and was Head of the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board from March 2015 to June 2018 .

Career

Vanessa Allen Sutherland received her JD and Master of Business Administration degrees from American University . Sutherland worked for the MCI WorldCom group from 1997 to 2004 and then for Philip Morris USA and Altria from 2004 to 2011 . In the course of her subsequent work for the United States Department of Transportation , Vanessa Sutherland took up the position of Chief Counsel to the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration there since October 2011 . She led a group of 31 lawyers and has received multiple awards for her achievements. In March 2015, Sutherland was appointed head of the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board by then President Barack Obama and was confirmed by the Senate on August 5, 2015. Their term of office was five years. Vanessa Allen Sutherland, however, resigned as head of the agency in June 2018.
