Varpelis (German: "Glöckchen") is a boys' and youth choir and a music school in Kaunas , the second largest city in Lithuania . The choir was founded in 1960. It has had its own singing school since 1989 . Here the boys receive extensive training in singing, piano playing , ear training, conducting and music theory from an early age .

“Varpelis” has 300 “bell boys”. 40 of the best boys form the concert choir. The choir has won various competitions in Lithuania. In addition, numerous concert tours have been undertaken with great success to Poland , Austria , Norway , Estonia , France , Holland , the Czech Republic and Germany. There was an exchange with the Wiesbaden boys' choir .

The choir's repertoire includes works by famous Lithuanian composers ( Čiurlionis , Naujalis , Vytautas Miškinis ) and those by great European masters (Mozart, Bach, Schubert, Gounod). In addition, Lithuanian folk music has a permanent place in the choir's programs.

Ksaveras Plančiūnas has been leading the choir since 1983 . He studied choral and orchestral conducting at the St. Petersburg and Vilnius Conservatories.

Support association

2003 in Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis the Friends Varpelis founded. Since 1995 there have been cordial, friendly contacts between this school and the Kelsterbach Music School, musicians from the Rhine-Main region and the MGV “ Cäcilia 1881 Johannisberg ” e. V. Numerous joint events, such as rehearsal phases, voice training seminars, concerts and concert tours, primarily carried out and organized. The purpose of the association is to support the activities of the boys 'and men's choir Varpelis, the boys' choir school Varpelis, and the orchestra Varpelis from Kaunas / Lithuania in ideal and material terms.
