history

The Wiesbadener Knabenchor was founded in 1960 at the Wiesbaden Ringkirche by Pastor Hugo Herrfurth. He was followed by Konrad-Jürgen Kleinicke as choirmaster from 1964 to 1989. After the choir was temporarily led in 1990, the regional church appointed Klaus Ullrich as its director from October. In 1997/98 there was another interregnum with Hans de Gilde, which ended with the appointment of Nicol Matt. The sponsorship had meanwhile been transferred from the regional church to an association, so that from then on the choir was financed from membership fees of the choir singers, grants from the Protestant church in Wiesbaden, the city of Wiesbaden and donations. In 1999 a choir was set up under the direction of Christiane Glotzbach. In 2000 Nicol Matt retired. He was succeeded in 2001 by Roman B. Twardy. In the 2014/15 school year there was an interregnum with Danilo Tepša as director. Roman Twardy has been leading the choir since July 2015.

Musical profile

The choir has made a name for itself in the Rhine-Main region, in Germany and internationally through choir and orchestral concerts - with well-known artists and orchestras such as Montserrat Caballé or the Brandenburg Philharmonic Potsdam - participation in festivals and concert tours.

The choir has been a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs (VDKC) since 1998 and in 2002, in recognition of its services to the international choir exchange, became a member of the European Federation of Choirs of the Union based in Brussels .

Concert tours have taken the choir to numerous European countries and - at the invitation of the Goethe Institute - to Malaysia and Australia in 1997. In 2003 the choir performed the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach in Switzerland and France , where, among other things, a concert took place in Provence as part of the renowned baroque festival “Printemps Baroque” . In 2004 the choir gave concerts in Bulgaria in Sofia, Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad, Dupnitsa and Sandanski. The 2005 concert tour took the choir to Northern Germany and Denmark .

In 2013 the Wiesbaden boys' choir won the " Culture Prize of the State Capital Wiesbaden ".

The choir made several radio and television recordings and released CD productions at. A recording of works by Johann Rosenmüller received special attention from specialist circles .

repertoire

The choir's repertoire ranges from unaccompanied folk songs to oratorios by Johann Sebastian Bach. One focus is the music of the baroque , but contemporary choral music also has a special focus .

Choral exchange

Close contacts are maintained with boy and youth choirs from home and abroad through choir exchanges, concert projects and guest concerts. For example, at Christmas 2003, Bach's Christmas Oratorio was performed together with the Lithuanian boys' choir Varpelis in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area. In 2004 the choir friendship with the boys' choir "Kanon" from Dupnitsa was continued as part of the concert tour to Bulgaria .
