Veillonella is a genus of bacteria fromthe Veillonellaceae family . The species are gram-negative , obligate anaerobic cocci bacteria . Little is known about the clinical relevance, as the Veillonella bacteria are not determined in routine microbiological diagnostics.
etymology
André-Romain Prévot named the genus in 1933 after the French microbiologist Adrien Veillon , who isolated the type species Veillonella parvula .
