The Velasco Glacier is an 8 km long glacier on the Walgreen Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It flows in a westerly direction towards the Backer Islands .

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 2003 after Miguel G. Velasco of the United States Geological Survey in Flagstaff , Arizona , who was involved in the creation of maps of Antarctica using images from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer in the 1990s .
