The Veltener RC Empor 1969 is a sports club from the Brandenburg town of Velten . The association was founded in 1990 from the BSG Empor Velten . Forerunner was the 1969 founded section rugby ( rugby union ) of the company sports community . The rugby club played for the first time in the rugby Bundesliga in rugby union for the 2013/14 season .

history

On September 1, 1969, Burkhard Schirmer founded the rugby section of the pre-existing BSG Empor Velten . From the 1978 season, the Veltener rugby players played in the first-class league . In the 1980s, Velten had made it into the top group. So they achieved third place in the table in 1981 and reached the runner-up championship the following year. In 1983 the BSG Empor Velten lost the final of the German Rugby Sports Association's cup against their local neighbor BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf with 7:24. Furthermore, the BSG was successful in the youth and school sector and was able to celebrate several championships and cup wins with its offspring. Four players from BSG Empor Velten were appointed to the GDR's national rugby union team.

In 1990 the company sports associations of the GDR were dissolved. The rugby club Veltener RC Empor 1969 was re-established as a registered club . The club played in the regional league after no team had been reported in play at times. The club played in the third-tier Regionalliga Nordost until 2012 when they ended up in the lower midfield. Due to the redesign of the national leagues, Velten started in the 2nd Bundesliga the following year, where they took 1st place in the East relay and were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga East . There the Velten only reached the penultimate place in the 2013/14 season and were relegated straight away. After relegation, they played in the East Season of the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2014/15 season and reached 2nd place. In the following years the club stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga East and reached 1st place (2015/2016) and twice 4th place. (2016/2017) (2017/2018)
