Venable Ice Shelf

The Venable Ice Shelf is a 64 km long and 24 km wide ice shelf on the Bryan coast of west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It lies between the Fletcher Peninsula and the Allison Peninsula .
It was mapped by surveys of the United States Geological Survey and by means of aerial photographs by the United States Navy between 1961 and 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after Commander Jack Donald Venable (1926-2008), head of ship operations with the support units U.S. Navy in Antarctica between 1967 and 1968.
