Venda Sõelsepp

Venda Sõelsepp (born July 17, 1923 in Haapsalu , † May 12, 2006 in Pärnu ) was an Estonian children's author and poet.

life and work

Venda Sõelsepp graduated from high school in Haapsalu in 1942 and then worked in a newspaper editorial office. In 1944 he was arrested by the NKVD . There followed five years in a penal camp and subsequent exile in Siberia, so that he could not return to Estonia until 1956. From 1957 to 1974 he was employed in service companies in Pärnu and Haapsalu, after which he lived as a freelance writer in Pärnu.

Venda Sõelsepp has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1974 and is best known for his children's books. Some of them have been translated into several languages ​​of the Soviet Union, and a book is also available in German in several editions (see below).
