Venere Net Srl (in German Venus ) was a branded Venere.com occurring in the market Italian online travel agency worldwide for booking accommodation. The company was founded in 1995 as Società a responsabilità limitata based in Rome . In 2008 Venere.com was of Expedia Inc. adopted. In the country of origin, Italy, the portal was still one of the 1000 most visited websites in the country in 2015.

In 2013 Venere Net Srl had an annual turnover of 105.3 million euros with 145 employees, in 2014 it was 83.1 million euros with 133 employees.

The company logo was based on the painting The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli .

history

In February 1995 Venere Net Srl was founded. In 2001 the joint stock company Venere Net SpA was founded with international offices in London and Paris . In 2006 the private equity company Advent International took over 60% of the shares. In 2008 Expedia Inc. acquired 100% of the shares in Venere.com. In September 2015, a business-to-business platform for online travel agencies was set up. In November 2016, Venere announced the discontinuation of the booking platform effective December 1, and for further bookings, the company's website refers to the Expedia subsidiary Hotels.com .

criticism

Stiftung Warentest rated the travel portal as problematic. Since this is a foreign portal, in some cases no German law applies.

In a test by the German Society for Consumer Studies (DtGV), the portal was rated 3.6 (sufficient). Criticisms, restaurants or non-smokers could not be included in the search.
