Vera Kottek
Vera Kottek-Bazzi (born April 1, 1963 in Korneuburg ; † January 18, 2015 in Switzerland ) was an Austrian- Swiss table tennis player. She took part in world championships four times and became senior world champion in doubles.
Life
The defender Kottek played for her home club UNION Sparkasse Korneuburg until 1991. During this time she won five titles at the national championships in Austria : 1986 doubles with Sissy Rudolecky, 1988 doubles with Barbara Wiltsche , 1989 singles and 1991 doubles with Barbara Wiltsche and mixed with Peter Raidl. She represented Austria four times at world championships, namely in 1983 , 1987 , 1989 and 1991 , and three times at European championships, namely in 1986 , 1990 and 1992 . It did not come close to medal ranks.
In 1991 Kottek married the Swiss Reto Bazzi and took his name. She moved to Switzerland and was henceforth eligible to play for this country. Here she played for the clubs TTC Wettstein Basel, Aarberg, TTC Neuhausen and TTC Belp. At the Swiss Championships in 1993, 1994, 1998, 2003 and 2006 in singles, in 1993 and 1994 in doubles with Barbara Höfliger and in 1993 in mixed with Thierry Miller . In December 2006 she led the Swiss rankings in first place.
She later started playing senior tournaments. She won the gold medal in doubles with Galyna Yenenko (Ukraine) at the Senior World Championships 2008 in the age group over 40. Further successes as a senior:
- 2005: Senior European Championship 40+: Third place in singles, silver in doubles with Larisa Farina (Russia)
- 2006: Senior World Championships 40+: Third place in the individual
- 2010: Senior World Championships 40+: Third place in singles and doubles with Guo Gang Ru (China)
- 2013: Senior European Championship 50+: Second place in the individual.
Vera Kottek had two daughters and lived in Toffen . She was the sister of the musician Hannes Kottek .
