Hannes Kottek

Hannes Kottek (born August 23, 1958 in Korneuburg ; † September 26, 1994 in Vienna ) was an Austrian jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Live and act

Kottek, the son of a musician, began to learn the trumpet at the age of 15. Four years later he studied in Vienna in the jazz department of the Vienna Conservatory under Erich Kleinschuster in the trumpet class of Robert Politzer ; he also played in the ORF Big Band . As the first trumpeter he toured with the Vienna Art Orchestra from 1984 to 1990 and also belonged to Hans Koller's International Brass Company . He also worked with Friedrich Gulda , Gunther Schuller , the Austrian Jazz Composers Orchestra , the Vienna Bigband Machine and the big bands of Teddy Ehrenreich and Richard Oesterreicher . He also composed and arranged for Pro Brass , to which he belonged for many years. He also played in the Vienna Opera Orchestra, the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra , [vi: nvi: n] and the ORF Sinfonietta . In 1990 he founded his own quintet Kottek (S) Election . He can be heard on albums with the Vienna Art Orchestra , Pro Brass , the Art of Vienna Brass and as a studio musician by Rainhard Fendrich , Etta Scollo and Supermax . In 1992 he became terminally ill with leukemia , from which he died on September 26, 1994 at the age of only 36 years.
