Vera Lischka (born May 1, 1977 in Linz ) is a former Austrian swimmer .

Career

During her sporting career, Vera Lischka, who was trained by Rolf Gläser , started for ASV Linz .

In 1992 Lischka achieved her first national championship titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters chest when she was only 15 years old. This was followed in 1994 by the national championship over 100 meters chest, as well as with the 4 × 100 meter medley and freestyle relay. In 1995 she was again national champion in the 100 meter chest and with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay.

Lischka's most successful year was 1996, when she finished fifth at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and missed the bronze medal by only six hundredths of a second, and when she became European champion over 50 meters and vice-European champion over 100 meters at the European short course in Rostock . With this title win she was also the “1. European Swimming Champion of the Second Republic ”.

In 1998 she won the 50 meter breaststroke at the European Short Course Championships in Sheffield, the silver medal.

It was not until 2001 that she was able to follow up on her successes of the late 1990s when she won the bronze medal over 50 meters breast at the European Short Course Championships in Antwerp . After these championships she threw back a purulent bursitis in her left shoulder.

At the end of 2002 Lischka finally took part in the military world championships in swimming in Warendorf , where she took fourth place over 50 meters breaststroke and in the European short course championship in Riesa , where she was eleventh over the same distance, before she ended her swimming career in 2003.

Lischka graduated from the upper level secondary school in Honauerstraße in 1996 and graduated from the University of Krems with a degree in television journalism and communication studies in 2003 . With her show Spo (r) tlight , Lischka brings prominent sports stars onto the stage, with the proceeds from this event going to oö. Young athletes benefit. Until the end of 2009, the former European swimming champion was for the SPÖ in the Upper Austrian state parliament . Lischka is currently (2017) a reporter for the Kronenzeitung .
