Mike Conley Sr.

Michael Alex Conley Sr. (born October 5, 1962 in Chicago ) is a retired American athlete .

Conley was one of the best and most popular three jumpers of the 1980s and early 1990s. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he won the silver medal. He was able to repeat this place at the 1987 World Championships in Rome. At the Olympic Games in 1988 he was absent from Seoul due to an injury. However, after a bronze medal at the 1991 World Championships , he was able to become Olympic champion in Tokyo at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. He was unlucky that his victory jump of 18.17 meters was not recognized as a world record and the first legal jump over 18 meters due to the minimal exceeding of the permitted wind support of 2.0 m / s. At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, he became world champion.

Today Conley works as a triple jump coach. His son Mike Conley Jr. is a professional basketball player.
