Kenny Harrison

Kenny Harrison (* 13. February 1965 in Milwaukee as Kerry Lorenzo Harrison ) is a former American track and field athlete . He was the second triple jumper in the world to jump over 18 meters.

In the US Trials for the 1988 Olympic Games, Harrison was sixth. In 1990 he was world best of the year with a width of 17.93 m. In 1991 Kenny Harrison won eight of eight competitions. The most important victory was at the World Championships in Tokyo . He won with the world best of the year of 17.78 m, but was only three centimeters ahead of Leonid Voloshin from the Soviet Union.

In the years to come, Harrison suffered repeated injuries. He could not qualify for the Olympic Games in 1992 either and was tenth at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart with 17.06 m.

After a fifteen month injury break, Kenny Harrison returned to the US Trials in 1996 and won with a single valid jump, which, albeit with too much tailwind, landed at 18.01 m. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 Harrison jumped his personal best with 18.09 m and was able to beat the British world record holder Jonathan Edwards , who came to 17.88 m.

At the 1997 World Championships in Athens , Kenny Harrison came in 9th with 17.05 m.
