Association of German Pigeon Fanciers
The Association of German Pigeon Breeders e. V. (VDT), as a special association of the Federation of German Poultry Breeders (BDRG), is the umbrella organization for pedigree pigeon breeding in Germany . Through the BDRG, he is also a member of the European Association for Poultry, Pigeon, Bird, Rabbit and Cavia Breeding .
All regional and national pigeon breeders clubs in Germany are organized in the VDT . Three groups can be identified among the member associations:
- Local associations ,
- Special associations dedicated to breeding selected breeds , and
- Flying pigeon clubs .
In order to support breeders of endangered pigeon breeds, the VDT breeding committee names several breeds each year, which are to be particularly encouraged by naming and awarding additional prizes. Funding is not provided in order to avoid a temporary increase in breeding, which would collapse again without funding.
The VDT is the organizer of association shows, which take place at regularly changing locations. The annual highlight is the German Pigeon Show . It will be held for the 61st time in 2012. Here the German champion of the pedigree breeding is chosen. The association journal “Die Rassetaube” was also published at this time.
The VDT's flying pigeon fanciers have also held a German championship since 1992.
The carrier pigeon breeders are organized in the Association of German carrier pigeon breeders .
