Guy Teissier (born April 4, 1945 in Marseille ) is a French politician . He served briefly in 1988 and has been a member of the National Assembly since 1993 .

Political career

In his youth, Teissier belonged to the right-wing extremist movement Occident , in which politicians such as Alain Madelin and Gérard Longuet also took part. After studying law, Teissier first became a notary assessor . In 1982 he moved to the General Council of the Bouches-du-Rhône department for the canton of Mazargues . The following year he was also elected to the city council and became mayor of the city's 9th and 10th arrondissements . In June 1988 he successfully ran for the National Assembly. However, his mandate was declared invalid on November 26 of the same year by the Conseil constitutionnel and Teissier had to leave the National Assembly in favor of Bernard Tapie . In 1993 he was again elected to parliament, and in 1997 he was re-elected. In Parliament he was given special responsibility for national security and defense issues. In the 2002 elections, he achieved the best constituency result in France with 76% of the vote. In the same year the right-wing UMP was founded , which he joined. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2012. In August 2011, a group of four deputies attended not recognized under international law to be led by Teissier Azerbaijan part of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic . There they made speeches in front of parliament and were declared undesirable in Azerbaijan because the trip was carried out without the approval of the Azerbaijani government . At the end of November 2012, Teissier was one of around 70 MPs who, with their leader François Fillon, split off from the UMP group in parliament and founded their own group under the name R-UMP.

Others

Teissier is married and has two children. He is holder of the Ordre national du Mérite on the rank of knight. He is also the recipient of the René Cassin Medal. In addition to his political activities, he is president of an interest group for the Calanques near Marseille, which were declared a national park in 2011.
