The VPT is organized in the legal form of a registered association (eV) and entered in the register of associations at the district court in Hamburg, the seat of the association. organization

National groups

The VPT is divided into 13 regional groups, which maintain contact with the authorities responsible in their area, the regional medical associations and organizations as well as with the national organizations of the insurance carriers. They are authorized to conclude contracts and agreements for the area of their federal state within the framework conditions decided by the federal executive committee. Each regional group has set up an office which is responsible for the management of the regional group. The representation of interests at federal and state level takes place nationwide.

District offices

Within the regional groups, the VPT is divided into district offices, whereby the district office and the regional group are responsible for directly looking after the members. The district offices are subordinate to the respective regional group, the regional groups to the federal executive committee.

Federal Executive

The federal executive board is composed of the chairmen elected by the federal delegate assembly and the regional group chairmen. He directs the work of the association, aligns the work of the regional group and district offices in a uniform manner and ensures that the resolutions of the Federal Delegate Assembly are implemented. He continues to represent the goals of the VPT vis-à-vis the highest authorities, ministries, corporations and courts as well as medical associations and organizations and the central associations of insurance carriers, such as health insurance companies and employers' liability insurance associations .

Furthermore, the Federal Delegate Assembly receives the annual business report and decides on the discharge of the board within the meaning of §26 BGB and the federal board.

Goal setting

The main aim of the VPT is to ensure quality in physiotherapy while at the same time ensuring financial viability. The association represents the group of physiotherapists and all their relatives in global competition, vis-à-vis the service providers in the healthcare sector, as well as politicians and the payers.

It also wants to contribute to the promotion of physical therapy and, in cooperation with other public health organs, ensure the dissemination and deepening of scientific knowledge in the field of physical therapy and its practical application by the members of the association.

Founding participation

The VPT played a key role in the new version of the law on masseurs and physiotherapists that came into force in 1994 . During the negotiations, the VPT was able to offer the masseur / med. To enforce bath attendant as physiotherapist, but had lost his primary goal of gaining the professional title of physiotherapist for the profession of masseur to the German Association for Physiotherapy (ZVK). Since then, the former physiotherapists have been using the professional title of physiotherapist. In 1997, the VPT was a founding member of the Federal Working Group of Medicines Associations (BHV), which represents the interests of all medicinal products providers in Germany. In addition, the VPT played a key role in the establishment of the Federal Osteopathy Working Group (BAO) in 2003 and in the establishment of the Central Association of Therapeutic Products Associations (SHV) in 2014 .
