The Verbellatal (formerly also Gaschurner Val (l) bell or Vallabella ) is a valley in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and is located at the end of the Montafon valley towards the state border to Tyrol , which runs over the Verbellener Winterjöchle.

The Versalspitze is a massive mountain range at the entrance to the Verbella valley. The Verbella valley begins southeast of the Versalspitze. The Verbellabach drains the Verbellatal into the Ganifer .

Word meaning

The name Verbellatal should go back to “Val bella” (beautiful valley) and indicate that the municipality of Gaschurn- Partenen was developed by the Rhaeto-Romans . Val bella is one of the approximately 415 Rhaeto-Romanic field names in Gaschurn-Partenen. A linguistic shift took place because “Val” already means “valley” and Verbellatal literally means “beautiful valley”.

history

The economic development and temporary settlement of the valley probably took place via Galtür or, starting from Kleinvermunttal , via the Zeinisjoch . From around the 14th century, the Rhaeto-Romans were displaced. From the 16th century, the previous Alpe Tafamunt developed into the Maiensäss and the alpine economic importance of the Alpe Val bella increased. The owners of the Maisäss Tafamunt were also partly owners of the Alpe Val bella. About the ways in which today are committed even by hikers and mountain bikers ride the, probably even then already the Alpe Val bella was with cattle corners .

The Graubünden document book documents the Alps on Zeinis, in the Verbellatal, on Vallüla and in Vermunt as early as 1089. Like Tafamunt, the Verbella valley was used intensively for agriculture in the Middle Ages and agricultural use was only reduced from the middle of the last century. There are numerous remains of dilapidated hay barns , drainage and irrigation ditches, stone walls and heaps of stone , especially at the entrance to the Verbella Valley .

Alpe Verbella is cultivated by the Alpe Verbella agricultural community (seat: Partenen ) on an area of 964.23 hectares .

Mining

In the Verbella Valley, metal was dug in earlier times . This should be indicated by field names such as Außengani fer and Innergani fer (Greco-Latin suffix fer indicates iron , Latin ferrum ). It is believed that copper was also mined.
