Verbosus is a browser-based LaTeX and Octave editor that allows LaTeX projects to be created and managed online. The graphical user interface is not based on existing, non-browser-based LaTeX programs, as it is designed to work and be used in a browser.

Verbosus does not require the installation of any LaTeX or Octave programs such as TeX MiKTeX , TeX Live , Octave / Matlab or similar.

As in various other tools ( TeXworks etc.), a PDF viewer is integrated, which allows a PDF file to be generated from the LaTeX code and displayed directly, as well as syntax highlighting for better readability of the LaTeX code and auto-completion . The connection from the browser to the server is protected by using the HTTPS protocol (using Transport Layer Security ). Encryption and authentication can thus be guaranteed.

technology

The client side of verbosus was completely in JavaScript development. It uses the Dojo Toolkit to communicate with the server . The continuous use of JavaScript On Demand allows content to be reloaded (transparently for the user) without reloading the entire page. The use of JavaScript means that no plug-ins (such as Adobe Flash Player etc.) are required.

Mobile platforms

From version 2.5 there is a LaTeX editor for Android , iOS and Windows called VerbTeX , which addresses the verbosus.com interfaces to generate PDFs from the LaTeX code. From version 3.4 on there is an Octave Editor called Anoc , which also addresses the Verbosus interfaces in order to calculate the result of the scripts created and to generate plots.

collaboration

Verbosus allows different users to work on the same project at the same time. Changes made by other users are displayed in a built-in tool (similar to Diff ), which the user can adjust or discard when saving.
