action

Tim Murphy, a former Vietnam soldier , lives in a single-family home in Miami with his wife Paula and two children . Ever since Tim returned from the war, he has been plagued by terrible memories every day. He simply cannot forget certain events from the war. When he also loses his job, his family suffers more and more from his trauma and his wife in particular is very worried about Tim. In the constant search for work, he meets Luke, who is struggling with fears similar to Tim. Luke also once served in Vietnam . Both men look in vain for a job, but are usually not taken. Tim's condition comes to a head and peaks when he crawls through his house with a knife in hand, believing he is at war. Paula always tries to persuade her husband to go into therapy and go to a self-help group on a regular basis, but he does not confide in anyone his experiences.

One day Tim meets his good friend Luke again, who tells him he would want to try again with his wife. Tim encourages him and is looking forward to further discussions with Luke. However, when Tim calls Luke in the evening to ask how he is doing, Luke has completely forgotten who he is and thinks he is in the Vietnam War . Before Luke shoots himself out of desperation, he tells Tim that his wife has filed for divorce and wants to leave him. After Luke's death, Tim falls back into the role of the Vietnam soldier a second time and brings Paula to despair.

After his relapse, he realizes that he needs therapeutic help and goes to his self-help group. Looking back you can find out what terrible things Tim experienced during the war.

criticism

"A story developed sensitively over long stretches, but sometimes it turns into kitsch and thus loses some of its effect."
