The Order of Merit of Venezuela was founded by the government of the Republic of Venezuela under President Páez on August 29, 1861 and awarded for "essential services".

Order classes

The order is divided into three levels

Order decoration

A six-pointed, white enameled star with a gold border and small gold balls at five points forms the decoration. The sixth point that points upwards has the support ring for the ribbon. Enameled oak and laurel branches are attached under the star so that they are also visible in the free parts of the star. They are enamelled in green. A round center plate is in white on the front and shows the foundation date of August 29, 1861 in gold numbers and letters. A blue enameled ring surrounds the central shield and has the gold inscription Republica de Venezuela . The reverse shows the Venezuelan coat of arms and the motto Honor al merito (honor for merit) in the blue ring .

Ribbon and way of wearing

A light blue border on each side adorned the red ribbon. Bearers of the Grand Cross wear the medal over their shoulders as a sash, the commanders as a neck medal . In the buttonhole the medal is only worn by the knights.
